About Making Waves

Exhibition Dates: March–April 2026
Timed to coincide with Women's History Month and Earth Day. More details coming soon!

Making Waves: Currents of Change celebrates women artists and environmental consciousness during Women's History Month and Earth Day. The exhibition brings together a diverse group of San Mateo County artists whose work explores the intersection of environmental awareness and women's experiences through painting, installation, printmaking, maps, poetry, and community engagement.

The exhibition's title evokes both the literal presence of water—a precious resource increasingly at risk—and the metaphorical ripples created when women challenge the status quo and forge new paths forward. Through various media, these artists examine our relationship with the natural world, honor environmental activism, and envision sustainable futures. Their work reminds us that change begins with individual action, building into collective movements that reshape our world.

About the Project

As part of The Calling's 6000 Circles Project, we're creating a dynamic community installation that honors the circle as a symbol of balance, unity, and the never-ending flow of feminine energy and light—much like water itself, the life force at the heart of our environmental future.

Your Creative Exploration

As you create your circle, consider the themes of Making Waves:

  • Water as Life Force – Our most precious resource, increasingly at risk

  • Women as Change-Makers – The ripples we create when we challenge the status quo

  • Environmental Action – Individual gestures building into collective transformation

  • Flow and Resilience – The feminine qualities that sustain both ecosystems and communities

Materials & Process

We'll provide basic circle substrates and art-making materials. You're also encouraged to bring your own supplies—photos, fabrics, natural materials, paints, collage elements, or anything that speaks to you about water, nature, and women's voices in environmental action.

No art experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and creative spirit!

RSVP

Email Belinda Chlouber belindachlouber@rwccfc.org. Finished circles will become part of the immersive stairwell installation during Making Waves: Currents of Change (March–April 2026), creating a visual cascade that connects individual expressions into a powerful collective statement about environmental consciousness and feminine energy.
